Psychoanalysis

Understands human behavior as being determined by conscious and unconscious motivations, also considering symptoms as external manifestations of underlying problems (a conflict, a psychic fragility, a psychological trauma). The subject mental functioning is built throughout his life under the influence of his close relationships, particularly those experienced throughout childhood.

The psychoanalytic technique aims a deep restructure of the patient’s personality or eventual trauma, and takes place several days per week, with the patient usually laid down on a couch.

Psychodynamic Psychotherapy

Uses the psychoanalytical theoretical background, but it is less frequent than Psychoanalysis (usually once a week) and works face-to-face or within a therapeutic group.

It is more focused on the actual events and present psychic material than Psychoanalysis, and the past is used mostly to understand the present.

Family and Couple Therapy

The decision to seek therapy is generally difficult for a couple, and it is often the sum of precipitating events that determine the rupture.

Naturally, the conflicts that occur in a couple's life can be considered essential for their development. However, in certain circumstances, these conflicts can become too heavy, insoluble or reveal dysfunctions.

Unavoidably requiring the presence of both partners, this therapy is dedicated to the psychic functioning of the couple, with the main focus being the relationship and not the individual.

The sessions take place at a weekly pace, with improving the couple's communication being one of the first objectives. In the course of this regularity and in the security of an analytical framework based on the couple's free association, the reflective function is developed, which allows for an increase in understanding of the relationship and of themselves.

Child Psychotherapy

The therapeutic relationship is usually mediated by playing and drawing (expressive techniques), which constitute the main communicating tools the child uses, and through which the therapist can understand the child’s internal mental world and communicate with it.

Since children are still in a developmental phase, the therapeutic results are usually much faster than those with adults.

Psychodrama

Psychodrama (psyche = mind; drama = action) is carried out in a group psychotherapy that takes place in a space where the action happens, which allows emotional expression through the body, words, and dramatic action.

Through action and interaction with the group, each participant can mobilize their personal experiences and understand them, making psychic and behavioral change possible, and making the individual more authentic, in tune, and true to themselves.

Music Therapy

Music therapy is a psychodynamic therapeutic approach, suitable for all ages. The music therapist employs music and other arts interventions to address diverse needs, spanning physical, emotional, cognitive, and social realms. Trained therapists utilize techniques such as listening, singing, and playing instruments to foster positive changes.

It is indicated to children, including those with ADHD, social skill deficits, anxiety, speech and language difficulties, autism, challenges with authority and boundaries. Any other emotional, motor and neurological difficulties can benefit from tailored music therapy sessions.

Psychological Assessment

Through psychological tests, the psychologist aims to achieve an understanding of the individual’s mental functioning (emotional or cognitive) and personality. The results are used either to guide clinical work or to clarify academic and professional choices.

For personality evaluation, we mostly use projective and expressive techniques, which are understood through a psychodynamic approach.

Psychomotricity

Psychomotricity consultations are aimed at bodily, psycho-affective, psychosomatic problems and neurodevelopmental disorders, which affect behavioral expression, as well as lifelong learning.

The intervention is planned according to the psychomotor assessment and collection of clinical and personal history. It is based on body awareness techniques to enable better tonic-emotional regulation and reorganization of body schema and image, through therapeutic relaxation and expressive techniques.

The intervention can also use techniques that promote the processes of awareness of motor planning and programming, promoting better decision-making, action monitoring and practical creativity. The approach can be individual or group.

Art Psychotherapy

At times, expressing ourselves only with language can feel challenging. By making art and connecting with our creativity, we can find new ways to explore and understand ourselves.

Art therapy is a form of psychodynamic psychotherapy in which art-making is used as a therapeutic tool to deepen our communication and expression. With a trained art psychotherapist and in a nurturing, confidential space, clients (of all ages) can use expressive art materials such as paints, inks, clay and collage, alongside talking, to explore emotions, experiences and personal difficulties. Art psychotherapy provides a space to make sense of inner struggles, to find new perspectives and to foster positive change.

Art psychotherapy can help people of all ages. Clients do not need any art skills to participate or benefit. Art therapy can be useful for people who may be drawn to creative making and/or struggle to articulate themselves verbally. Research shows art therapy can be particularly beneficial to children and adolescents, positively impacting their emotional literacy, self-awareness, self-esteem, resilience and quality of life

Psychiatry

In Psychiatry, the doctor must look beyond the symptom and medication, meeting the patient as a whole. Together, many areas of the patient's life are explored in order to understand his mental functioning, as well as his suffering. Mental illness goes far beyond a loss of functionality, there is also a search and sometimes a confrontation in accepting a new meaning in the patient's personal history.

“Neste espaço de construção, a minha psicoterapeuta ensina a sua arte de ouvir, compreender, agir, mas acima de tudo de pensar... Pensei que era mais fácil pensar… Pensar na viagem das emoções é como criar uma história com princípio, meio e fim, um fio condutor, uma prosa narrada por outra perspectiva. O seu pensamento de fada faz magia com as emoções. Trata-as por tu e, com coragem, enfrenta-as. Tantas vezes penso nela.”
